What:

The future of OTTAWA’S TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE is a hot button topic that played a major role in last fall’s municipal election. Well, CapCHI is going to jump on the TRAIN to see if we can help DIRECT THE FLOW of our TRANSIT future in the 2015 CapCHI Interaction Design Jam! Come on out and join CapCHI in an evening of fun, laughs, and learning.  Check out this summary of a previous rendition of our Interaction Design Jam (formerly Interactionary): http://www.capchi.org/blog/2010-08-16-interactionary-hci-design-challenge-summary.

The PLAN:  A time limited design competition where student and professional teams NAVIGATE through unique challenges, employing solid user experience methods.

The CONVOY will officially consist of teams from Akendi, Jumping Elephants, and two entries from Algonquin College‘s School of Media & Design.

Urged on by all those in attendance, the teams WEAVE their way through the TRAFFIC and follow a ROUTE to a DESTINATION. An esteemed panel of judges will give the teams points, but hopefully not DEMERIT points, in variety of categories, including teamwork, approach, final design, and audience participation. The winning team DRIVES away with great prizes and amazing bragging rights!

With spring around the corner, it’s time to hit the STREETS and get out of the office. This event is sure to be as popular as a DOUBLE DECKER BUS, so HOP ON BOARD! Whether you come by FOOT, BICYCLE, BUS, CAR, or LIGHT RAIL (not this year, but it’s coming!), we guarantee you one heck of a RIDE. While PRESTO CARDS will not be required, we do request that bring a good sense of humour, positive vibe and a sense of fun – we won’t revoke your LICENSE!

As always, there will be complimentary appetizers during the networking portion of the evening (6:00pm-6:30pm) and our partners at The Fox & Feather will be providing all those in attendance with 10% off their food and non-alcoholic drinks. We invite you to stick around after the event for more great networking, food, and drinks.

2013-02-19 CapCHI Interactionary

CapCHI will be hosting another Interactionary event on February 19th at the Fox & Feather Pub and Grill! This great event that gives participating teams from industry and academia a chance to interact and show off their design skills.

Date: Tuesday February 19th, 2013
Time: doors open at 6:00 pm; competition begins at 6:30 pm
Place: The upstairs room at the Fox & Feather Pub and Grill, located at 283 Elgin St, Ottawa, ON, Canada (foxandfeather.ca).

The Game (the Interactionary explained)
The “Interactionary” is a special event in which 3 or 4 design teams work for a short time on an interaction design challenge in real time, in a competitive and fun format. It provides the participating teams with the opportunity to contribute to the CapCHI community, as well as an opportunity to show off their design process and skills in an event that is sure to draw a big audience and generate a buzz! The session will be entertaining and educational, demonstrating ‘live’ some of the less tangible aspects of team design processes, as well as the more formal elements.
The Rules
At the Interactionary, each team is given 10 minutes to work on-stage on a design challenge. A panel of judges will highlight and discuss what they see as the most interesting and important aspects of each team’s approach. Each team will be scored on a number of categories, including outcome, team communication, and design process. There are rewards for all teams! The audience is also polled for discussion and comment, and to see how their views compare with those of the panel. After the Interactionary, the teams will be expected to assist in providing a permanent record of the event.
