The User Experience Designer represents the user throughout the product development cycle to ensure that our products are intuitive, inspiring, and designed to help our users accomplish their goals. The Designer must have superb organization and logic skills, be detail oriented, have excellent written and oral communication skills, and have a broad understanding of mainstream computing environments and associated technologies. Exceptional interaction and visual design skills with an understanding of color, graphics, and iconography are a must.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Able to synthesize and translate customer and business needs into a product design that attracts target customers
- Plan, manage, and execute on various user touch points, such as surveys, phone interviews, site visits, and newsgroup moderation
- Conceptualize, design, and deliver intuitive and compelling designs
- Ability to articulate designs in various forms, such as use cases, functional specifications, wireframes and mock-ups, in order to communicate the design to internal and external stakeholders
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Maintain an awareness of current trends in interaction design and competitive software to identify opportunities to enhance the user experience
- Represent end users in all phases of product development to ensure Corel products exceed end user expectations for fulfilling their needs
- Determine when it is necessary to qualify design decisions with quantifiable end-user data, and coordinate with others to obtain the necessary data
- Validate designs with customers throughout the development lifecycle
- Actively seek out collaboration and ideas with other team members and cross-functional groups during all phases of product development
- Self-direction and motivation are essential.
- Bring positive energy to the team in all interactions
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, or other related field, and at least 4 years of experience in software user experience design and graphic design; or Master’s degree and at least 2 years of related experience
- Must present a portfolio that demonstrates a strong understanding of and passion for experience design
- Experience planning and conducting user research and disseminating results to broad audiences and successfully driving improved designs
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of graphics and digital imaging tools
- Experience providing advice, ideas, guidance, and leadership in User Experience Design to others
- Experience leading a cross-functional group of participants to consensus on decisions
