The Microsoft Live Labs user experience team is seeking a seasoned senior UX designer with applied industry experience in conceptualizing, exploring, prototyping and delivering, new and novel internet search experiences that leverage new search technologies.
Microsoft Live Labs is a team of world class scientists, engineers and designers who are taking the lead in exploring the intersection of science and technology to conceive and deliver new internet product concepts and experiences in the areas of; search, advertising, social networking and multimedia. Our work surfaces rapidly and is shaped through dialog with the online community, iteration and refinement.
Our goal is to thoughtfully explore new ideas and concepts in a public forum with a clear roadmap towards a final product in mind. Live Labs has locations in downtown Bellevue and Seattle.
This is a unique opportunity to reinvent the internet search experience. By understanding new search technologies, conceiving new user scenarios and prototyping new search interfaces, you can impact Microsoft’s future search strategy. Candidates are expected to demonstrate applied experience in designing compelling search solutions for rich client or web applications. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a solid history of designing and delivering products that achieve a high usability standard while venturing into new areas such as storytelling, desirability and emotional engagement with the user.
Specific responsibilities of this role include;
- understanding new technologies, identifying the product opportunities they present and crafting these into user experience goals, scenarios, features and experiences,
- expressing ideas and concepts though high-fidelity storyboards, illustrations and prototypes,
- closely collaborating with scientists, engineers and fellow designers to evaluate and iterate on ideas and designs,
- detailing final designs to facilitate implementation or hand-off, addressing all user experience-related issues blocking implementation,
- managing multiple projects, prioritizing and planning deliverables,
A four year degree in Industrial-, Visual-, Interaction- or Interactive-Media Design, or related field is expected. 3-5 years of industry experience developing rich client or web applications is expected. Solid communications and presentations skills are expected.
Expert level knowledge of design, illustration and prototyping tools is expected. JavaScript, DHTML, AJAX or C# development is an asset.
