Wind River is looking for a Human Factors Engineer- Usability Specialist to drive a strategy for the out-of-box-experience for the Wind River portfolio of middleware solutions, run-time platforms, and development tools. This position reports into the Product Management organization. The ideal candidate is familiar with the discipline of human factors engineering and will be able to apply a user-centered design approach to the definition and oversight of the out-of-box-experience to ensure that the setup process is well designed to get users up and running, registered, and started with basic product functions – resulting in a high customer satisfaction rating while reducing direct and indirect support costs. Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of the software development lifecycle and success in influencing cross-functional teams spanning development, release engineering, licensing compliance, user enablement, and partners. In this position, you will be responsible for the vision, strategy, and the execution of initiatives related to the out-of-box-experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Installer technology, software update technology, patch management, and software distribution
  • Product licensing strategy, license schemes, and license management solutions
  • Responsible for the end-user experience and the projection of the Wind River brand
  • Oversight and governance of the product portfolio releases, and ensuring that they align with corporate guidelines and criteria for the out-of-box-experience
  • Aligning the execution initiatives to improve the out-of-box experience with initiatives related to user enablement

Requirements:

  • 5+ years human factors engineering and/or usability engineering experience
  • Demonstrated success in product planning and successful product launches
  • Experience implementing licensing schemes and experience with license management technologies
  • Hands-on experience with user-centered design techniques
  • First-rate oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to think creatively and take initiative, while managing multiple concurrent projects
  • Development tools and/or Eclipse experience is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of VxWorks and Linux is an asset
  • Knowledge of Linux and open source software update mechanisms is an asset
  • BA/BS (computer science, engineering, marketing or equivalent), MBA a plus
