Salary range: $91,285 to $121,055

Education: Successful completion of a university degree from a recognized university in computer engineering, computer science or a related field.

Information Technology and Infrastructure Library certification would be an asset.

The Office of the Auditor General of Canada is seeking a Director in Information Technology. We offer a challenging and interesting work environment with many opportunities for growth and advancement and a good work/life balance.

The key activities of the Director are as follows:

Directs the analysis of clients’ IT proposals, from both a business and technical perspective, to ensure integration throughout the department, and conformance with the technical architecture standard;

Directs the implementation of technology standards and frameworks that will change the way the IT technical resources deliver technical client solutions. These initiatives could lead to internal restructuring, resource allocation and a change in the IT service deliveries’ standards and practices;

Directs the infrastructure and Operations team by managing its financial and human resources, determining the group’s goals, objectives and priorities, preparing operational and business plans, and developing work processes and standards;

Identifies opportunities created by new technologies, analyses their applicability to the OAG, and brings forward business cases and/or project plans as appropriate;

Develops and implements corporate strategies and initiatives to ensure that the computing systems and network environment effectively supports all of the Office’s current and future objectives and priorities;

Plans and directs the research, development, integration, coordination, implementation, monitoring and maintenance of the department’s IT infrastructure and operational plans, policies and standards, as well as the acquisition of goods and services, and the negotiation of service level agreements with Central Agencies to ensure that the group’s total operations and IT expenditures are made in a planned and controlled fashion;

Identifies opportunities for service enhancement and recommends to senior management and/or to the appropriate Committee, new IT initiatives for increasing productivity and reducing costs;

Represents the IT group with clients to negotiate service levels, provide advice and solutions to their IT problems, and reach consensus on overall Office objectives and priorities for the IT infrastructure;

Provides input to long range and annual IT plans, policies and standards, and makes strategic recommendations to senior management on the use and optimization of the IT infrastructure, including best practices and standards;

Chairs symposiums and seminars, maintains membership in professional associations, and consults with IT officials of central agencies, other government departments, provincial governments and the private sector, to develop solutions to common IT infrastructure problems;

Develops and prepares discussion/research papers, briefing notes, and position papers on the Office’s IT infrastructure and operations.

Has superior communication skills to gain respect and influence, to write reports, and to establish excellent relationships with client organizations.

Must Have Skills

  • Significant experience directing an organization’s IT infrastructure and operations environment including operational plans, policies and standards
  • Significant experience leading and supervising IT and multidisciplinary teams in the delivery of IT services
  • Significant exp. in the analysis of IT proposals to ensure integration & conformance with the corporate technical architecture & operations platforms
  • Significant experience providing client-oriented IT services through negotiation of service level agreements & the operation of help desk services
  • Significant experience in the monitoring and quality assurance measurement of client satisfaction with both IT services and systems performance
  • Significant experience directing the operation and providing strategic and operational leadership of a data center environment
  • Significant experience managing all the activities related to the acquisitions of goods, licenses and services as it relates to IT operations
  • Significant experience negotiating and managing vendor agreements
  • Significant experience developing and managing budgets to ensure that IT expenditures are made in a planned and controlled fashion
  • Experience with the implementation of new technologies, policies, processes, standards and frameworks that change the way IT delivers services
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with all levels of employees as well as other organizations.
  • Experience researching, analyzing and reporting future trends and developments in various IT disciplines.
